Eurovision Memories- Ruslana(Ukraine)

Ruslana won the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest representing Ukraine. She tallied a whopping 280 points on the night and received points from 34 of the 35 participating countries- what were Switzerland thinking??

Ruslana’s father is from the West-Ukrainian area of the Hutsuls, the dwellers of the Ukrainian Carpathian Mountains. They have a unique culture with an ancient and rich history which inspired Ruslana to create her concept album Wild Dances. It combines powerful and permeating ethnic drums, trumpet sounds of the trembita, an ancient Hutsul music instrument, with modern dance beats.

The song she performed on the night was also entitled “Wild Dances”. What a song and what a deserving winner!! Its gems like this that make the Eurovision worth watching!!
